Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has stated that no one can run the nation without involving the Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM).

The MP remarked that when Kenya faced a crisis during the 2024 Gen-Z demonstrations, President William Ruto turned to ODM for help.

He explained that the organisation has great influence in the political sphere.
Kaluma shared the sentiments on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, while speaking on a local radio station.
“That is why when Kenya was in a crisis in 2024 following the Gen Z revolution, President Ruto had no choice but to reach out to ODM.”
“It has members in Parliament, both houses, members in terms of County Assembly, members in the Council of Governors,” Kaluma said.

The Chungwa Party politician noted that quorums for certain meetings cannot happen without ODM members.
“I hope you know today that you can’t have a quorum even in the Council of Governors for a meeting if ODM members are not in attendance. We are that critical,” the veteran leader proclaimed.
The leader further took a sly dig at the Wiper party and Jubilee party, pointing out that their intervention is never needed.

“That is why Ruto reached out to ODM. He never bothered to reach out to Wiper or Jubilee because the country can move forward.”
Kaluma also noted that the timing of coalition agreements matters.
He said that the number of elected leaders determines the importance of the collaboration.
“If you go into coalition agreements, your weight will depend on the number of elected leaders you have.”
“If you are going into a post-election coalition, no one will take you seriously if you have few governors, MPs and MCAs because you can’t do much,” the MP boasted.
UDA-ODM joint meeting
The legislature’s remarks come days after UDA and ODM held a joint meeting at State House.
It was revealed that the purpose of the meeting was to explore a joint interest between the two parties.
According to ODM, the forum was to ensure equality between the two influential groups.
The meeting came about as a result of zoning clashes emerging between the two parties.
